The design of this 8,211 sq ft. home was inspired by Frank Lloyd Wright's architecture on 3.59 acres of land in Portola Valley.

This owner's manual describes all the finishes, components, drawings, and photos from the construction of this home. The goal of the manual is to explain how the home and all of its different parts work. The home's design includes many advanced systems that work together to maximize comfort, convenience, and energy efficiency. The more you as the the homeowner understand these, the more you will use and enjoy the special features of the home.

The manual also documents the quality of construction with all the designer's drawings and extensive photos of what is inside the walls and under the ground. If you are considering an addition or a change, it much easier to see in these photos what the impact of changes will be without tearing things apart or digging them up.

This manual is electronic and HTML based to simplify navigation and to incorporate all the original sources in PDF format. Rather than linking to a manufacturer's Web site, the component manuals are all stored in a (large!) component subdirectory. This makes this manual self-contained and avoids the problems of missing links when manufacturers redesign their Web sites.

This manual is organized into four major sections:

• The Rooms section documents the finishes, appliances, and systems built into each room.
• The Systems section documents the advanced features built into the whole house for convenience, comfort, and energy efficiency.
• The Drawings section documents the design and structural drawings used to build the house.
• The Photos section documents the actual construction process.
